We live at a time in history when we have the choice to either watch the greatest films ever made in the theater (yes, this can be argued) or to stay home and stream content directly to our television. Some people will never choose to leave their homes. For someone who loves to watch movies at the theater, it’s not an easy decision.
Modern conveniences allow families to rely more on technology to entertain themselves, and the old tradition of going to a movie with the family is a thing of the past. It seems strange that, with the quality of the movies released in the theaters over the past two decades, families choose to “veg out”, or stream content on their mobile phones.
Movie theaters were not always the best places to go. It was difficult to immerse oneself in the story because the theaters were in disrepair. You had few options for snacks or drinks other than popcorn, soda and boxed candy. The theaters seemed to become more and more stuck, as the years passed. The home streaming services took off at that time.
You could now avoid the dullness of the movie theater and watch it at home. It was great because you could prepare your own snacks and food, drink whatever you liked, and pause the film as many times as you wanted. Why would you leave your house?
It’s not really that strange after all.
Imagine the last time that you visited the cinema. You may have avoided the cinema because it wasn’t a good experience. It was probably awful. The arcades near the lobby were a little unsettling due to an odd crowd that seemed off. Concessions consisted of candy, soda, and stale popcorn. The theater itself was not very inviting. The sound systems needed to be upgraded, and the sticky floors were everywhere. It was obvious that going to the movies was not a fun experience.
People are unsure about the issue. There are diehards who will fight for their cause no matter what. But for the rest of the population, how can we decide if a movie at the theater is worth it or if we should wait to stream the content from our home?
Here are some thoughts to consider if this is you:
Tickets, food, etc. A night at the cinema can be expensive for some families. It can be a challenge depending on how many people are involved. The downside is that streaming services usually charge a monthly fee on top of the internet bill.
Showtimes and Scheduling Do You have time to watch movies? What time? What day? Do you have a showtime that works for you? If you keep getting “No” as an answer to any of these questions, streaming could be the right option for you. Streaming services can also change the content they offer over time. This means that you may miss something you want to see.
Watching trailers When we boil down this debate to its most basic level, deciding whether you would prefer to watch a film in a cinema or at home is as simple as watching the trailer. A theater may be the best option if it’s a movie that looks mind-blowing and epic. Otherwise, streaming may suit you.
People stayed at home to enjoy their entertainment because of the changes in technology. It’s true that movie theaters have finally begun to make amends for their past mistakes. This means you, as a consumer, get a real win-win situation. The concessions have improved, the lobby is safer and the theaters offer a more immersive experience. Movie grill/dine in theaters are the best. They offer quality food at your seat, with a server and options for craft beer brewed on site.
There’s no better way to watch movies than in a theater. The movie theater experience is unmatched by any home setup. There’s more to the decision of whether you want to watch a movie at home or in a cinema than just your equipment. Each person is unique, so they must decide what suits them best.
