Every year, fantasy and sci-fi fans may only have a few or several movies that appeal to their sense of cinema. This year was a great one for sci-fi fans. There were a lot of good films in the genre. Hollywood’s obsession with DC Universe and Marvel Universe is a big part of why so many films are released each year.
The big screen is the best way to watch a good movie. It brings the story to life and allows for more details to be seen. All five of the movies below have a larger-than-life quality that makes them perfect for the big screen. This is one of the main reasons you should see these five movies. You’ll walk out of each movie feeling satisfied and happy.
Glass
Glass continues the story that was started in Bruce Willis’s Unbreakable movie, released almost two decades ago. Split was the sequel to Unbreakable, a psychological thriller that starred James McAvoy in a role as a person suffering from split personalities disorder. Bruce Willis, James McAvoy, and Samuel L. Jackson reprise their roles in this third film. You will probably enjoy this third movie in the series if you have seen the first two.
Captain Marvel
Carol Danvers, played by Brie Larson, gains incredible powers that transform her into Captain Marvel. You know that Captain Marvel is going to triumph over evil from the start, but the real fun is finding out how she does it. She has some impressive superpowers, and by the end of the film, you will likely be a fan.
In this sequel, Dwayne Johnson, Karen Guillen, Jack Black, and Kevin Hart return to save the video game by taking us on a new journey. Dwayne, Karen, Jack, and Kevin Hart are back in this sequel, to take on more rogue creatures, mountains, jungle terrain and other challenges.
Star Wars Rise of Skywalker
The film concludes the Skywalker storyline, which is enough to make it worth watching. Daisy Ridley Adam Driver and Billy Lourde are the stars of the film, but as usual, the real attraction is the special effects that dazzle and make the viewer believe they are watching intergalactic war spectaculars. The resistance fighters who are still alive in this film will have to deal with the Final Order of the Republic and use all their resources.
Harriet
This biopic, starring Cynthia Erivo as Harriet Tubman begins with her escape from slave trade. Ms. Tubman was soon on her way to a series of dangerous missions aimed at freeing slaves through the Underground Railroad. This is an accurate portrayal of history and a story which has never been told. It deserves to be adapted for the big screen, so everyone can see what a true hero she was.
Highlife
It’s a science-fiction thriller in which prisoners are sent into deep space and used for scientific experiments. The storyline and some of the experiments are very disturbing and will make you uncomfortable. However, the acting is excellent and the overall atmosphere of the film is amazing.
The Irishman
The movie is directed by Martin Scorsese and reunites Robert DeNiro with Al Pacino, two veteran gangsters. A mob hitman recalls his youth and how he might have been involved in the murder of Jimmy Hoffa. Netflix is set to release this movie in late November. It’s worth watching, if only because of the collaboration between the legendary actors and director.
Motherless Brooklyn
It’s a different kind of movie, in which an isolated detective does his best to solve the murder mystery surrounding his only friend. Edward Norton stars and directs the movie, along with Alec Baldwin and Bruce Willis. The movie takes place in 1950s New York. The period costumes and setting are worth the admission price. The movie is also worth watching because Mr. Norton does a great job in the lead role.
Avengers: Endgame
In this sequel to Avengers: Infinity War, the storyline continues with all our favorite Avenger Heroes pitted against Thanos who is determined to rule the universe. The battle scenes in this movie are as you would expect, with all the characters displaying their superpowers. The ending will probably surprise you, as it is not your typical happy ever after.
